Projects in the Pipeline


IMAGE: Shade grown coffeeSome of the Environmental Business Finance Program's (EBFP) projects in the pipeline include Indonesia Forestry, Sri Lanka Renewable Energy, and Egypt Energy Efficiency.
  • Indonesia: EBFP and local partners are developing an initiative to stimulate the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Indonesian sustainable timber industry by increasing their access to finance and helping a local financial intermediary (FI) launch a new sustainability business line.
  • Sri Lanka: EBFP and IFC's Sustainable Energy (SE) group are jointly working on an initiative to support local FIs in developing a lending program for distributed generation projects. EBFP and the SE group will provide financing and technical assistance to stimulate access to finance for SMEs in the renewable energy-based distributed generation industry.
  • Egypt: EBFP is supporting a large Egyptian/foreign affiliated bank to develop a financing package for SMEs that implements energy efficiency (EE) projects. The bank will seek to work with a natural gas distributor to open up marketing opportunities for both parties.

In all three projects, EBFP's funds are leveraging significant amounts from other private and public sector sources.
  • Verde Ventures: A venture capital fund, managed by Conservation International, that supports biodiversity-conserving SMEs around the world. EBFP's funds are financing and measuring the impact of SMEs active in sustainable coffee cultivation, eco-tourism, and sustainable forestry.
  • Siwa Oasis: EBFP is supporting an integrated development program comprised of sustainable agriculture, eco-tourism, renewable energy, and traditional artisanship.
  • Banco BBVA: EBFP's support to this commercial bank will enable the latter to offer financing to SMEs to undertake EE projects throughout Peru.
